Animal Pastel Portrait 6 week course

Would you like to learn how to draw your own animal or pet portrait? Have an interest in using Pastels but don’t know where to start? 

Join Katharine on this 6 week course as she introduces you to the pastel medium, teaches techniques and finally guides you through creating an animal or pet portrait.

Starting on Wednesday 22nd April and every wednesday after that for 6 weeks.

Each weeks class is aprox 4 hrs from 10:30am – 2:30pm held at Katharine’s studio Skorkart at Halfpenny green vineyards. 

Pastels are a versatile medium to work in as they span both drawing and painting. Here is a short breakdown of what we will learn in this course:

· Week 1: 22nd April

o Introduction to Pastel, Paper types and drawing tools.

o How to choose your reference photo

o Initial drawing techniques

· Week 2: 29th April

o understanding tonal values 

o Learn techniques for building texture and form

· Week 3: 6th May

o Eye Study

· Week 4: 13th May

o Nose, and Fur Study

· Week 5: 20th May

o Begin final Portrait

· Week 6: 27th May

o Finish final Portrait

This course is aimed at those who would like to learn new skills using pastel in a relaxed informal atmosphere with likeminded people. It is suitable for complete beginners but also experienced artists wishing to try a different medium.

All materials are included for the duration of the course. You can provide your own photo reference for the final portrait if you wish to draw your own pet, but Katharine will have suitable photos for you to use as well. 

Hot/cold drinks and snacks are included, feel free to bring a packed lunch.

Max 4 people per class. £250 per person
